Read a good book lately? If not, now's your chance to join The Big Read and enjoy Dashiell Hammett’s classic detective story, The Maltese Falcon.

For the third consecutive year, Hattiesburg readers will participate in The Big Read, an annual nationwide reading initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.
The Library joins USM’s Dean’s Office of Arts and Letters, The Hattiesburg Arts Council, the Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association, VisitHattiesburg, the Lamar County Library System and other area groups and organizations to celebrate literary reading for adults. A variety of book discussions, lectures and performances are planned for the fall to examine this classic detective novel.
